A Legacy of Service

The Cheves family has long tentacles in Georgia. William Cheves was raised around many successful mentors ranging from Atlanta, Savannah, and Columbus, including his father and uncle, who were both attorneys. Watching them helped him realize how fulfilling it was to help others and how important integrity and character. When choosing a career, he was drawn to align all those qualities, leading him to a career as an attorney.

William attended Auburn University and Columbus State University and finished in 2001 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor degree in Finance. He then obtained his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University (the 11th oldest Law School in the United States) through an accelerated program, graduating in 2.5 years.

While in law school, he clerked at Cory, Watson, Crowder & DeGaris in Birmingham, Alabama with exceptional personal injury attorneys. Working for such fine attorneys confirmed for him the desire to help people and turn negative experiences into positives when possible. To effectively do this, his strategy was to work for the insurance companies and absorb their business models like a sponge and then use the knowledge absorbed to beat them on the other side. This was made personal for him when he dealt with the aftermath of a wreck involving his mother, the effects of which she suffered from for many years and which ultimately took her life. This life-changing experience sharpened his passion to assist those who cannot help themselves against insurance companies in the aftermath of injuries.

William Cheves spent years trying cases for insurance companies including State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, State Farm Fire and Casualty Insurance Company, GEICO General Insurance Company, GEICO Indemnity Company, USAA, Liberty Mutual, Cotton States, and a variety of others. As his skills became more refined, he was given the opportunity to open a law firm for GEICO in Savannah, Georgia which he ran successfully for 5 years.

His goal had been to gain a lot of trial experience in defending personal injury cases. Now, having reached that goal, he was prepared to fight the very insurance companies that he had worked for. He was hired to work for a high-volume law firm leading their litigation department, but tired of the lack of direct interaction with clients and thankless hours, he was confronted with the issue of the business of law versus the practice of law.

The business of law is a machine that churns out many cases for profit like a manufacturing plant, focusing on the bottom line rather than the client’s best interest. The practice of law to me means being able to give each client the attention to detail that they deserve and the ability to work the case from the beginning of the process to the end, even if that includes a trial. Knowing that he wanted to be in the practice of law rather than the business, he set out to start his own law firm.

Confident in his abilities and eager to work each case on his own accord, Cheves Law was established. With over 15 years of experience, there are few insurance issues or fact patters that surprise the professionals at Cheves Law. His experience in metro Atlanta, Savannah, Columbus, and across the states of Georgia and Alabama will be put to work on your case to maximize your physical recover as well as your ultimate financial recovery in your case.

Philosophy

My philosophy is simply to treat each client like they are a member of my family, assist them through their claim process with professional advice, compassion, and to fight for their best interest.

Getting through injury claims often involves a balancing act of medical professionals, health insurance, and time. Although insurance claims involve a cumbersome series of formal steps, I do my best to explain the chokepoints, constrictions that the insurance companies strategically place and set forth my strategy when dealing with them.

In my spare time, I find pleasure in traveling, golfing, and watching SEC football. I enjoy giving back to the community through my favorite charities that support suicide prevention and awareness and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation that supports childhood cancer research.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and trusting me to represent you.

Let’s Work Together

“Mr. Cheeves represented me after I knew him for a long time. He handled my case well and was attentive to all my questions and concerns. I could actually get him on the phone unlike some of my previous attorneys. He helped negotiate a fair settlement and I was pleased with my results. The only thing I didnt like about him was that he pulled for Auburn."

Warren

“Mr. Cheves was great from the beginning to the end of my claim. I was always able to speak directly with him and he got me a great settlement when the insurance company was giving me a hard time. He was invested in my claim which my husband and I appreciated. We would recommend him to anyone. He was a very straight forward genuine attorney."
